Probiotic strains are transferred from mother to infant via human colostrum and milk during breastfeeding, providing a continuous supply of commensal and potential probiotic bacteria to the infant gut.

Maternal glucose metabolism. Up to 10% of pregnant women experience glucose transport problems. An RCT of 10 billion CFU of BB-12^® and LGG^®was shown to assist maternal glucose metabolism during pregnancy, while 2011 research found that LGG^® and BB-12^® reduced the occurrence of weight gain following childbirth.
